The violence associated with karate smacks of anything but "Christian." Legendary karate "masters" were reputed to have superhuman powers, including the ability to kill small birds with a yell ("the shout of doom"), a secret knowledge of how to touch lightly at a spot on the body to cause death ("the touch of death"), and the ability to penetrate an adversary's body with a bare hand to withdraw his still-beating heart. The very nature of these violent forms of expression runs counter to God's Word. How then can any Christian justify his involvement in karate or any of the other martial arts? He can't. Not even by claiming that such involvement is for self-defense, exercise, to learn discipline, etc. (let alone justifying it for evangelism purposes!). There are other methods by which these results may be obtained -- methods not associated with harmful violence and false doctrine.
This is what a Taoist says about whether christian should do karate or not.

I often find it hilarious that Christians think they can understand a martial art without studying its spiritual practices
I study Chinese internal martial arts and I consider myself a Taoist. I train in Taoist internal alchemy.
I empathize with the Christian perspective in that I don't think they should be involved in these systems. I'm not talking down to Christians (although I think they are wrong in terms of their religious choice) I'm just saying that for the most part they should stay out of the martial arts.
I think that most Christians in the martial arts either misunderstand the arts or create some bizarre logic like "this stuff was originally taught by Christ". As someone who is not and never was a Christian I find these statements hilarious. There is often a sense that Buddhist or Taoist spirituality expressed through the arts is a kind of "anonymous Christianity". This is ludicrous. This kind of schizophrenia is often found in the "interfaith" movement and among those who talk of "eastern philosophy". Buddhism and Taoism aren't philosophies. They are religions with temples and monks.

I think if we are to be a christian; be a christian, and don't be half Buddhist and half christian pick one. Stop trying to mix with other religions.I think karate is boring. And is not good for your spirit, because it has a lot of demon spirits. You should not open yourself up to demon spirits, it could send you to hell. This is my opinion.
